I have submitted a bug to Larian with no response. It's not a GOG-specific issue; the problem was the hard drive being overwhelmed by lots of requests, forcing BG3 to wait. Assuming Windows, use Task Manager to check if the drive is hitting 100%. If so, you can use Disk Activity in the Resource Monitor to identify which applications are contributing.
